Sundhara murder victim identified, murderer still at large

KATHMANDU, Aug 7: A girl who was found dead with her throat slit inside a hotel room in Sundhara, Kathmandu on Tuesday has been identified as Babita Gurung of Golfutar, Kathmandu.



According to the Metropolitan Police Crime Division, the girl had got married just three months ago. SSP Bijaya Lal Kayastha, chief of Crime Division, said, the police was able to identify the girl after it received a call from a close friend of the murdered girl. [break]



"We have already launched the hunt for the main accused and kept other suspects under surveillance," Kayastha said. "Our difficulty is increased by the fact that there were very few evidences in the room where the girl was murdered."



The body of the girl was found inside the bathroom of a room located in the fourth floor of Parbat Shikhar Guest House in Sundhara.

The girl had been accompanied by a boy when they booked the hotel room at around 9:30am in the name of Nabin Magar.



An hour later, the boy escaped the hotel after killing the girl using a sharp weapon. According to the family sources, the girl had left home at around 9am on the pretext of visiting a temple near her home.



After the girl didn´t return till late evening, the family members started searching her.



“She had not been using mobile phone since getting married. Her parents had seized her mobile following unwanted calls,” police quoted Tamang as she said.

Meanwhile, the girl´s husband has told the police that they living happily after the marriage. The police said, “The murderer took away the golden necklace worn by the murdered girl.”



Citing the negligence of the hotel while registering the identity of the boy and the girl, the police said they would issue new directives requiring the hotels to be very careful about identity of their guests at the time of their check in.



Two accused in bomb blast nabbed



Meanwhile, Crime Division has also arrested two accused involved in the bomb blast at Balkhu on July 23 of this year. The Crime Division has arrested the accused from different places in Kathmandu.



According to DSP Shiva Shrestha of the Division, the accused are Surya Timilsina and Tikaram Rakhal. The two were also involved in attacking a firm owned by Nawaraj Bhushal, a local entrepreneur, after he failed to provide the amount the group had demanded.



The police said the group was involved in extortion, threats and kidnapping. Of the two, Timalsina has been identified as absconding accused in two kidnapping cases.
