Submitting a memorandum to the management on Sunday, Sugarcane Farmers´ Association of Rautahat has threatened to halt distribution of sugar produced by the mill after the mill did not fix the price of sugarcane even for the payment to be made from February 21.[break]
Sugarcane farmers went furious after the mill published a notice saying that the advance payment will be made at the rate of Rs 400 per quintal.
“Though the sugar mills have agreed to purchase sugarcane at Rs 481 per quintal, Shree Ram Sugar Mills have been providing us just Rs 400 per quintal as advance payment,” said Jaya Nath Yadav, president of the Sugarcane Farmers´ Association of Rautahat, said.
The meeting between Federation of Sugarcane Farmers´ Association and Sugar Producers Association held in Birgunj on Sunday fixed the price of sugarcane at Rs 481 per quintal.
“We will make payment as per the earlier rate because we are yet to receive minute of the Birgunj meeting. We will enforce new rates once we receive the minute,” said Sashikanta Agrawal, president of Sugar Producer´s Association.
