Dhangadhi, April 4: Sudurpaschim Province Chief Minister (CM) Kamal Bahadur Shah is seeking a vote of confidence in the provincial assembly at 3 o'clock in the afternoon today.

However, CM Shah faces uncertainty in securing the vote of confidence due to internal disagreements in the ruling partner, the Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP).

Amidst the uncertainty regarding the vote of confidence, Chief Minister Shah is deliberating internally on whether to proceed with the vote in the provincial assembly or announce his resignation during the assembly session. To discuss the situation, Shah has called a meeting of the Nepali Congress (NC) parliamentary party in the province.

During the meeting at the Chief Minister's residence in Dhangadi, Shah will provide updates on the current scenario and seek inputs from NC provincial assembly members.

Some members of the NC have suggested that CM Shah should step down from his position, citing the unlikelihood of securing a vote of confidence amidst the NUP's controversy.

MPs say that if Chief Minister Shah resigns after addressing the provincial assembly, the Province Chief can call for the formation of a new government according to Article 168 (2) of the Constitution. However, some argue that since UML's Rajendra Rawal has already been appointed as the Chief Minister under the same clause, the government formation process should proceed according to Article 168 (5).

Amidst these uncertainties and deliberations, there is growing consensus among political parties that the government formation process should adhere to Article 168 (2) to avoid the risk of provincial assembly dissolution as stipulated in Article 168 (5).
