KATHMANDU, June 5: Two Nepali cricket players have been found chucking in the ongoing Springwood T20 National Cricket Tournament being held at the TU cricket ground, Kirtipur. [break]

The match umpire called region number 5 player Subendhu Pande’s and region number 6 Baitadi player Naresh Budhayer’s bowling illegal for throwing and ruled them no balls. Nepali players have been suspected of chucking from time to time in international matches but this is the first instance of players having been found chucking.

ICC associate and affiliated panel umpire Buddhi Bahadur Pradhan termed region number 5 off spinner Subhendu Pande’s two deliveries no balls for chucking.

Pande, however, denied any wrong doing, and wondered how his bowling could be termed as chucking. Umpire Pradhan later said those deliveries fall into the throwing category because of illegal arm action while releasing the ball.

In the second match of the day, umpire Binaya Kumar Jha termed Naresh Budhayer’s first delivery a no ball for chucking. Budhayer completed his first over but didn’t bowl after that.

On the first day of the tournament, umpires put region number 4 Bhairahawa’s Rahul BK and Anil Mandal’s bowling action in to suspicion list.

The list of Nepali players involved in suspected bowling actions is quite long. Shakti Gauchan is the first Nepali bowler to be suspected for his bowling action. In the 2002 U-19 World Cup in New Zealand, the umpire had warned Shakti for his bowling action.

Chandra Saud, Ratan Rauniyar, Rahul Khadka, Sagar Khadka and Nepali women’s cricket team skipper Neri Thapa too have been suspected of chucking in international matches by the authority from time to time.
