KATHMANDU, Jan 9: A sub-committee has been formed under the coordination of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Shishir Khanal to study the issues faced by Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC).
A meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on International Relations and Tourism, held at Singha Durbar on Thursday, formed a four-member sub-committee led by Khanal. The sub-committee includes Tshering Lhamu Lama, Yogesh Gauchan Thakali, and Sunita Baral as its members.
The Parliamentary Committee’s Chairman, Rajkishore Yadav, informed that the Nepal Airlines Corporation Study Committee is expected to submit its report within a month. He also announced that a separate sub-committee for CAN will be formed in the upcoming meeting.

Additionally, the committee has directed the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) to prepare an action plan for overall policy, structural, and managerial reforms to support the development of the culture, tourism, and civil aviation sectors. The committee expects to be updated on this plan soon.
The Parliamentary Committee has also urged the ministry to expedite the construction of ethnic and religious museums in Nepal to preserve the nation's diverse ethnicities, languages, religions, and cultural heritage while promoting tourism. The ministry has been tasked with studying the achievements and effectiveness of projects run under the public-private partnership model and providing updates to the committee.
Furthermore, the committee has emphasized the need for regular, economical, and result-oriented archaeological excavations with a focus on performance. Likewise, regarding the operation of international airports, the committee has called for coordination between relevant bodies to ensure the regular operation of Bhairahawa and Pokhara international airports.
Additionally, the Government of Nepal and the MoCTCA have been instructed to fully implement the business plan for Nepal Airlines Corporation and provide progress reports to the committee.
The Parliamentary Committee has also urged the acceleration of the ongoing construction of Nijgadh International Airport, highlighting its national importance for security and economic development. The committee has directed the preparation of a political and marketing action plan for the promotion of the tourism sector and expects to receive information on this plan soon.
