Study on Kusunda concludes

DANG, March 20: A study on the Kusunda tribe on the verge of disappearance has been completed.



As per the National Census 2001, the population of the Kusunda tribe was only 166 throughout the country. [break]



The latest study on the Kusunda tribe is carried out by the Nepal National Ethnographic Museum with the objective of providing ethnic identity cards.



The study was conducted y a team led by Vice Chairwoman of the Museum, Bam Kumari Budhamagar.



The National Ethnographic Museum has conducted study on 10 different ethnic groups including the Kusunda. The other minority ethnic tribes studied by the Museum this year are the Byasi, Chhetri, Barhagaunle, Jirel, Braam, Darai, Yakkha, Balung and Topkegola.



It is said the study team will submit its report in a few days. Budhamagar said the study is based on field observation and extensive discussions taking into account the place of origin of the ethnic group concerned, their present habitation, historical and the present situation, the language, customs, religion, culture, costumes and tradition, among others.
