The classes here got disrupted for months due to the forceful closure of schools by the agitating groups and the violent clash in Kailali that led the government to clamp a curfew in the district."We should have been going over our course of study once again with just a few months remaining for the SLC board exam," said Siddhartha Kapadi, a tenth grader of Shantigar in Dhangadi. "Sadly, we haven't even studied the whole course so far."
Alina Pokhrel, a tenth grader at Bishal Nagar, says that she often gets distracted from the study fearing that she might fail in the SLC exam or receive grades lower than her expectation. Most of her classmates shared similar view.
The protracted turmoil in the area has not only affected the academic session but also left the children disturbed from inside, teachers say.
"The students are nervous and have problem focusing on their studies despite all our efforts to soothe them back to normalcy," said Tirtha Raj Pandey, a teacher of Sharada Higher Secondary School.
The students and their teachers still fear that the political situation might again disrupt their classes as the Tharu community still has differences with the government.
According to teachers, they can till wrap up the courses by conducting additional classes if the cadres of different political parties promise not to spoil the environment for running the classes.
Meanwhile, in the eight districts of central Tarai, where the schools have been shut for more than 100 days, there are still no signs of school resumption.
