Student leader attacked at Tri-Chandra

KATHMANDU, April 12: In yet another incident of a broad daylight attack in the capital, a group of masked goons on Monday attacked a student leader at Tri-Chandra College.



The three assailants kept their motorcycles outside the college premises and attacked Samir Badal, Bagmati zone secretary of All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) -- a student wing of the ruling CPN-UML, with khukuri knives.



Badal, who sustained serious injuries to his both hands and back, is undergoing treatment at Kathmandu Model Hospital. Three other students affiliated to ANNFSU -- Dipak Dhamala, Rupak Adhikari and Shekhar Shah -- also sustained minor injuries in the attack, according to RSS.







Police have made no arrests in connection with the attack till Monday night. However, superintendent of police Sudip Pathak claimed that he has identified the assailants. "We will soon arrest them," he said.



Meanwhile, Ram Kumari Jhankri, the president of All Nepal National Free Students´ Union (ANNFSU), suspects cadres of Nepal Students´ Union (NSU), the student wing of the Nepali Congress, were involved in the attack.







Another ANNFSU leader, Laxman Lamsal, who was on the spot, claimed that the attackers were friends of an NSU leader, who was shot at some months ago at the very college.



ANNFSU members blocked the road in front of Ghantaghar for two hours protesting the attack.



NSU has denied involvement in the attack.
