The deceased has been identified as 14-year-old Sanjay Gayak. The ninth grader breathed his last while undergoing treatment.
According to SP Hari Bahadur Pal, chief of Kaski District Police Office (DPO), the landslide occurred while school examinations were underway. Soon after the incident, personnel of the Nepal Police, Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and locals carried out a rescue operation.
Among the 13 injured are five teachers and eight students. School principal Mohan Poudel, 38, Bhawani Shankar Lamsal, 34, Amik Baral, 30, Shisir Baral, 22, and Arun Karki, 24, are the teachers who sustained injuries.
Similarly, the injured students are Anusha BK, Pratikshya Subedi and Bashu Gharti of grade 10; Kanchan BK and Shiksha Baral of grade 9; Rachana Poudel and Subin Thapa of grade 8 and Abhikshar BK of grade six, according to the DPO.
The injured are being treated at Metro City Hospital, Gandaki Medical College and the Western Regional Hospital. According to SP Pal, the injured are all out of danger.
According to students, only five minutes were left for the exam to end when the landslide hit.
