ITAHARI, Sep 4: Over the past year, Koshi Province has taken disciplinary measures against 86 Armed Police Force (APF) personnel for misconduct. The announcement came during a press conference held by the Koshi Provincial Level Armed Police Force Barah Bahini Pakli Sunsari on Sunday.

During the conference, DIG Anjani Kumar Pokharel disclosed that among those facing action, two Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), two Police Inspectors, and four Sub Inspectors were identified for violations of the code of conduct. The actions taken against the offenders include suspensions, demotions, promotion freezes, and warnings.

Notably, a police inspector and two others were suspended two and a half months ago for assaulting on-duty armed forces at the Nepal-India border in Mechinagar, Jhapa. This incident led to a comprehensive overhaul of the entire APF unit, including the DSP, due to their failure to address illegal imports from India in Sunsari's Kaptanganj.

DIG Pokharel emphasized a zero-tolerance approach to any misconduct by APF officers in Koshi Province, affirming that immediate action will be taken against any breach of their professional integrity. In an effort to enhance conduct, senior officers have been assigned to supervise APF personnel working in border areas, and corrective training has been made mandatory for any transgressions.

To date, approximately 400 individuals have undergone corrective training, reflecting a commitment to improving professional standards in the APF.

Moreover, during the current fiscal year, the armed police in Koshi Province have conducted 70 rescue operations for individuals affected by disasters, underscoring their dedication to public safety. In the previous fiscal year (2022/23), they rescued 1,538 individuals in 622 incidents.
