According to Om Sharma, General Secretary of Brahmin Society, the agreement was reached in the presence of the top leaders of major political parties, including the UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, during a talk held at the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction in Singha Durbar.[break]
In the three-point agreement, the government has agreed to enlist Brahmin, Chhetris, Thakuris and Dashnamis as indigenous communities and let provincial assemblies decide names of the provinces.
The struggle committee had taken to the streets demanding that Brahmins and Chhetris, which are enlisted in ´other groups´, be recognized as indigenous communities with their identities. They have also demanded that the names of provinces not be named in line with ethnicity.
In the agreement, the major parties have agreed to seek people´s opinion, if deemed necessary, for the purpose of giving names to provinces.
