Strike in mid and far western development regions

NEPALGUNJ, Sept 7: Normal life in the Mid and Far Western Development Regions has been affected badly following the general strike called by the student wing of the CPN (UML), All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU), to protest the murder of its cadre.



The agitating students have been demanding action against murderers of Bikram Shahi, a student of Mahendra Multiple Campus, Nepalgunj, rightful compensation to the deceased’s family, treatment for the injured persons and others. [break]



Transport service has been halted in all 24 districts of the regions and hundreds of passengers were stranded along the highways from early Wednesday morning.



Academic institutions, markets, banking offices and industries have been shut down due to the strike.



Shahi was murdered a week ago in an attack of unidentified gang in local Karkado area. Seriously injured cadres of the ANNFSU, Nitesh Lamichhani and Bikram Gurung, are undergoing treatment in TU Teaching Hosptial, Kathmandu.
