Strike hits Jhapa district

BHADRAPUR, Jan 29: A shutdown enforced by various students´ organizations has affected the normal life in Jhapa district in the far-east of the country.



The students unions have called for a general strike in the district under the second phase of their protest programmes calling for withdrawing the hike in the price of petroleum products.



No vehicles are operating on Jhapa section of the East-West Highway, the Mechi Highway and other feeder roads in the district since the morning due to the shutdown. As a result, the people have been inconvenienced.



Students have gathered at the Muktichowk in Birtamod to hold a protest rally. So far no untoward incidents have been reported in course of the shutdown, according to police.
