"This is a deceitful act, especially as the customers inside the airport terminal do not have other choices," said Prem Prasad Paudel, director of Department of Commerce and Supply Management (DoCSM).[break]
That is not all. The inspection team even found some of the stores inside the airport of selling date expired and unlabeled products.
“Some of the stores were even found operating without due registration and business renewal. Few of them had not even signed stall rental agreement with the TIA,” said Paudel.
The team had monitored Nepal Antiques, Soning Sewa, Classic Marts, Airport Tea and Coffee, New Confectionary Stores and Kantipur Café inside the TIA premises on Wednesday.
Of them, Nepal Antiques was found selling unlabelled products and charging double the maximum retail price (MRP), while Soning Sewa was charging Rs 400 for repairing different types of bags, which is pretty expensive than the outside.
Likewise, Classic Marts and Airport Tea and Coffee were found selling goods like bottled water, sandwich and peanuts at double of the MRP. New Confectionary Stores, which too was found selling goods at double the MRP, was operating without stall rental agreement.
“We have asked the proprietors of these stores to provide clarification for charging higher prices and selling unlabelled and expired products. They have also been asked to furnish rental agreement documents at the department within seven days,” said Paudel.
