KATHMANDU, July 15: After over three months of hiatus, the big three parties have finally agreed to resume work at the Constituent Assembly (CA) and expedite the constitution-writing process.

In the presence of CA Chairman Subas Nembang, leaders from the three parties on Thursday morning agreed to call CA meeting for July 18. The last meeting was held on April 7. [break]

The parties have also expressed commitment to complete the constitution-drafting process by mid-April, some 45 days before the extended term of the CA expires.

At the meeting on July 18, the CA will also endorse its new calendar of operation for the next nine months. However unlike in the past, the leaders have decided not to make breakdown of the remaining timeframe into divisions as per the various programs of the CA.

According to Nembang, the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) will take necessary decisions as and when needed for effective time management.

Failing to accomplish its work as originally planned, the CA made amendment to its calendar of operation for tenth time before extending its term on May 28. Of the 17 programs to be done while finalizing the statute, the CA has completed only seven of the items.

The leaders have also decided to form the proposed State Restructuring Commission (SRC) by July 22, a day after the prime minister´s election in the parliament. Maoist Vice Chairman Narayankaji Shrestha said the commission will begin its work from July 31.
