Stalled parliament meet begins

KATHMANDU, April 7: The stalled meeting of the Constituent Assembly in its capacity as the Legislature-Parliament began at the CA premises at 5.30 p.m. Tuesday, according to our correspondent Ghanashyam Ojha. The meeting began two and half hours behind schedule.



Our correspondent adds that it is still not clear whether the parliament can enter into its regular agenda. [break]



Nepali Congress leader Dr ram Sharan Mahat, as first speaker, said that the law and order situation in the country is very grave and accused the ruling Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) of promoting impunity.



Leaders from other parties are set to speak after Dr Mahat.



Earlier, the meeting of the parliament was delayed as the Maoists sought time until 4 p.m. to carry out homework on the demands raised CPN (UML) and Nepali Congress (NC). The UML has demanded the arrest of the murder-accused of Prachanda Thaiba in Butwal and the NC has asked the Maoists to implement its past promises including return of the property confiscated by Maoist cadres in the past. The UML has charged that Maoist´s Young Communist League (YCL) cadre Sujit BK killed its cadre Thaiba and has accused the Maoist of protecting BK.



Speaker Subas Nembang initiated meeting between major parties to to settle the stalemate.
