The project located on the border between Gorakha and Dhading district is to be constructed at the estimated cost of Rs 250 billion. The capacity of this hydel project is 600-mega watt and its capacity could be enhanced by double as per the latest feasibility study.
At an interaction programme organized by Budhi Gandaki Hydro Electricity Project Stakeholders Committee here Saturday, the participants underscored the need to further the project at any cost as it was important for the country's economic prosperity and development.
Speaking at the prograame, UCPN (Maoist) senior leader Dr Baburam Bhattarai remarked that the project was at standstill lately, owing to the excessive infiltration of politics in it.
Leader Bhattarai suggested that the locals and the people from the most affected areas in the locality should be involved in the project and encouraged to invest in it.
He was of the opinion that the most-affected local people from 17 VDCs and 10 VDCs in Gorkha should be availed relief package as well as rehabilitation elsewhere.
Citing that a Development Committee was formed to further the Budhi Gandaki Project under the leadership of UCPN (Maoist), leader Bhattarai, who is also former Prime Minister, appealed with the Ministry of Energy not to dilly dally in furthering the project under petty pretexts.
Similarly, Chinkaji Shrestha, Chief Whip of Nepali Congress stated that although his family was hit hard by the project, he was committed to taking the project further.
Likewise, Guru Prasad Burlakoti, the Constituent Assembly Member from CPN (UML) and Ramesh Dhamala, Chairman of Trekking Agency Association (TAAN) among other participants voiced for the earliest resumption of the Budhi Gandaki Hydel project. RSS
