According to the data publicized by the reserve on Thursday, the number of males this year is 385 and female 1,077. Compared to the previous year, 28 more male stags and 42 more female stags have been spotted this year.

The census was conducted by a joint technical team of the National Nature Conservation Fund and the reserve office over three days.

According to Yubaraj Regmi, chief conservation officer at the reserve, Sukla Phanta offers a rare view of the largest herd of stags in the world. “In the 5 sq kilometer area of this wildlife reserve you can see the biggest herd of stags at once. This is a rare privilege for the nature and wildlife lovers,” he said.

The census was conducted by 25 technicians with the help of 5 elephants.
