Morgan sets up final with Whitehouse
KATHMANDU: Morgan and Whitehouse reached the final of Akhil Cup Men´s National Basketball Tournament on Thursday. Morgan beat Prime 52-45 in the semifinal as Narhari Gautam scored 17 points for the winner while Whitehouse thrashed Ace 53-27 in the second semifinal. The final match of the tournament will be played on Friday.
NCC lifts volleyball title
KATHMANDU: Nepal Commerce Campus (NCC) clinched the title of the Manamohan Memorial Campus-level Akhil Cup Boys´ Volleyball Tournament on Thursday. NCC defeated Tribhuvan University Central Campus 17-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-20 in the final. NCC received Rs 35,000, while TU bagged Rs 20,000. Meanwhile, Public Youth Campus edged past Baneshwar Multiple Campus 25-13, 30-28, 25-14 in the third place playoff.
Thapa wins two golds
KATHMANDU: RPP-N Chairman Kamal Thapa claimed two titles in an international tennis tournament in New Delhi, India on Wednesday. Thapa thrashed defending champion S Settu of Kerala 6-2, 6-2 to win gold in the above 55 years singles event during the Senior Ranking Tennis Tournament organized by AISTA at Vasant Vihar Club in New Delhi. Thapa teamed up with Yogesh Sah in the doubles event of the same age group to claim his second gold with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over the pair of S Settu and P Kishor of Kerela.
Rokaya refutes Pradhan-led NOC´s claim
KATHMANDU: Athletics coach Hari Bahadur Rokaya refuted that he has received $18,100 from Nepal Olympic Committee led by Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan for the preparation of Youth Olympics held in Singapore. Sending a letter to Nepal National and International Players Association (NNIPA), Rokaya has said that he has received $510 only as the coach of the Nepali athletes during the Youth Olympics. Earlier, Pradhan-led NOC had claimed that Rokaya had received $18,100 for the preparation of Youth Olympics held in Singapore. Meanwhile, NNIPA condemned the Pradhan-led NOC claiming that the committee has misinformed the public to cover its corruption.
Nepali youth team thumps Sri Lanka
KATHMANDU: Nepal achieved fourth straight win maintaining its cent percent winning run on Thursday in the Kizuna Project Japan-SAARC U-14 Football Exchange being held in Shizuoka, Japan. Bimal Gharti Magar netted four goals for Nepal as it thumped Sri Lanka 6-0 on Thursday. Magar netted in the 16th, 18th, 25th and 31st minute in the 50-minute match. Shiva Subedi and Suman Parajuli scored one goal each in the 35th and 49th minute respectively. Earlier this week Nepal had defeated Maldives and Japan B.
Meghraj KC joins Himalayan Sherpa
KATHMANDU: Premier division football club Yeti Airlines Himalayan Sherpa has enrolled national team´s assistant coach Meghraj KC as its coach for the remaining period of the season. According to a statement issued by the club on Thursday, KC was appointed after the team´s coach Arjun Lama´s short contract ended with the team´s exit from the ongoing Ncell Cup Football Championship. Lama was appointed only for the Ncell Cup after its former coach Nawal Gurung went to his home country England. KC, the former coach of Three Star Club, had resigned from the club on moral ground after the star studded team lost to Friends Club during the Ncell Cup.
Carlsberg Golf Classic tees off Friday
KATHMANDU: Carlsberg Golf Classic will tee off Friday at the Royal Nepal Golf Club. According to Grokha Brewery, part of the Carlsberg Group, issued a press release Thursday and informed that around 100 golfers are to participate in the two-day event. The tournament will be played on the 18 holes with ¾ handicap format. According to the organizers, prizes and hampers are offered in 19 different categories including winner, runner-up, gross winner, ladies´ winner, junior boys´ winner and junior girls´ winner. In conjunction to Gorkha Brewery´s 22nd anniversary, special prizes are also offered. Gorkha Brewery Director-Marketing Paul-Olivier Claudepierre claimed that organizing this kind of tournament for amateur golfers really helps developing golfing in Nepal.
