SPORTS BRIEFS: Rabin Sadh bags gold

KATHMANDU, Aug 22: Rabin Sadh won gold in U-14 boys´ singles during the Sixth Hareram Joshi Memorial Inter-school Table Tennis Tournament on Monday. In the final, Sadh outplayed Anuj Adhikari of Siddhartha Vanasthali in three straight sets.



Sadh easily won the first two sets 11-6, 11-5 but had to struggle to take the third set 13-11.[break]



Tendi Sherpa of Bijeshwari School and Kiran Suwal of Vidya Vikash finished joint third. The winner and the runner-up received Rs 2,000 and 1,000 respectively. The third position holders received Rs 500 each.



Samaj Kalyan victorious
KATHMANDU: Samaj Kalyan Khelkud Kendra beat Charumati Yuva Pariwar 1-0 on Monday during the Martyrs Memorial Red Bull C Division League Football Tournament held at the Chyasal Ground. Kishan Shrestha scored the all-important goal for Samaj Kalyan in the dying moments. In another match, Nayabasti Saksham Club came back from a two-goal deficit to salvage a hard-fought 2-2 draw with Shree Kumar Yuva Club. Bulletin Bharati and Dinesh Shahi netted one apiece in the 62nd minute and stoppage time to earn a point for Nayabasti. Earlier, Rupak Hamal Thakuri and Binod Rai had scored in the ninth and 59th minutes respectively to put Shree Kumari ahead.


Shrestha elected NSKA President
KATHMANDU: Naresh Prasad Shrestha has been unanimously elected as the president of Nepal Sotokan Karate Association on Monday through its first general assembly. Thirteen central committee members were also elected unanimously by the general assembly of the association, which is affiliated to Sotokan Karate Do International Federation (SKIF). Sudarshan Lal Shrestha is the senior vice-president of the newly elected executive committee whereas Niwas Gopal Baidhya and Dilendra Govinda Baidhya are the vice-president and general secretary respectively. Om Narayan Shrestha and Shyam Kumar Bhujel are the secretary and treasury of the association.



Nepal Wrestling Association appoints VPs
KATHMANDU: Nepal Wrestling Association appointed three vice-presidents to its executive committee on Monday. Bidhya Sagar Pokharel, Ram Lochan Thakur and Suresh Kumar Dhungana are the new appointed vice-presidents of the association.



Secretariat for National Games formed
KATHMANDU: National Sports Council formed a three-member secretariat on Monday for the preparation of the Sixth National Games to be held in Dhangadhi and Mahendranagar of Far-western Region. The National Games is scheduled to be held seven months later. Far-western Regional Sports Development Committee President Deepak Bahadur Saud is appointed as the coordinator of the secretariat while Nabin Joshi and Basant Gurung are the two members. NSC has informed that they will add members to the secretariat as per the requirements.
