SPORTS BRIEFS: Pandey powers Fultekra victory

NEPALGUNJ, April 14: An all-round performance by Subendu Pandey guided Fultekra Rockers Club to a nine-wicket win over Jwala Sports Club on Thursday in the Nagarik T20 Cricket Tournament underway in Nepalgunj.



Pandey, who was declared man of the match, hauled five wickets of Jwala and hit an unbeaten 78 runs in their comfortable victory.[break]



Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Jwala were bundled out for 97 runs in 15.2 overs. In reply, Fultekra surpassed the target in 9.2 overs as they scored 100 runs. Sauvagya Bhusal scored 10 runs for Fultekra while Prajwal Shahi remained unbeaten on one run.



Earlier, Rakesh Rawal hit 27 runs for Jwala and Bibash Budhathoki scored 17 runs. Siddhartha Rana of Fultekra claimed three wickets.



Lalitpur beat Nuwakot


KATHMANDU: Lalitpur registered a seven-wicket victory over Nuwakot on Thursday in the Pepsi Senior Regional T-20 cricket selection at TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur. Winning the toss, Nuwakot opted to bat first and posted 92 runs for four wickets in 20 overs. Suman Uday scored an unbeaten 35 runs, which included two boundaries, off 48 balls for Nuwakot. Suman Shrestha was run out by Manoj Sood, who was later adjudged player of the match, while Jeebalal Bhattarai, Sunil Joshi and Prabin Shakya took a wicket each in the inning.



In reply, Lalitpur met the target of 93 runs in 17.4 overs as Sood topscored with 42 runs, including five boundaries and two sixes, off 46 balls to guide his team to 96 runs at the cost of three wickets. Sood was caught by Pramod Basnet, who also took another wicket for Nuwakot. Rakesh Singh took one wicket. With the victory, Lalitpur have gained a two-point lead over Kathmandu, TU and Bhaktapur, who have a game in hand. Nuwakot are yet to open their account.


Armymen dominate road race


KATHMANDU: Nepal Army dominated the Fourth Sachin Memorial Open Road Race held in Damauli, Tanahun, clinching the top three positions on Thursday. Deepak Malla Thakuri of Kewal Jung Company of Nepal Army covered the 9-kilometer race from Damauli to Ghansikuwa in 33 minutes 15 seconds to clinch the title. Hasti Budhathoki and Hasti Chand, both from the same company, finished second and third, respectively, clocking 34 minutes 9 seconds and 34 minutes 42 seconds. Altogether 53 athletes had participated in the race organized by Rotaract Club of Damauli in memory of Sachin Kumar Shrestha, who lost his life while attending the club´s meeting in India about nine years ago.
