The hosts defeated Deep Jyoti 25-9, 25-19, 25-11 in straight sets to bag the cash prize of Rs 15,100 along with the running shield. Runners-up Deep Jyoti bagged Rs 7,001. [break]
In the third place match, Gyan Sudha ousted SEB 25-14, 25-20, 17-25, 25-21. Gyan Sudha bagged Rs 4,100 and SEB received Rs 1,001.
Ramila Tandukar and Ranjana Khadka of the hosts were declared the best player and spiker respectively while the best server and setter awards went to Jeevan Purja of the runners-up and Shanti Shrestha of Gyan Sudha.
Unique, TIA in Daffodil Champions Cup final
KATHMANDU, Feb 21: Unique and TIA set up the final clash under senior boys´ section in the Daffodil Champions Cup Basketball Tournament winning their respective semifinal matches on Sunday.
Unique ousted NIMS 71-47 and TIA defeated Pennwood 88-62.
In the junior boys´ football, Deep Jyoti and RIBS advanced into the final. Deep Jyoti saw off NIMS 4-3 while RIBS too had a same margin win over APF.
Naag, Triton in basketball quarterfinals
KATHMANDU, Feb 21: Naag Sports Club and Triton cruised into the quarterfinals under girls´ category in the ongoing White House Cup U-19 National Basketball Championship held at the covered hall of Dasharath Stadium on Sunday.
Leading three quarters other than the third, Naag eased past Orient 26-12. Sangita Shrestha contributed the highest 10 points for the winning side as they won the quarters 5-0, 9-0, 3-8, 9-4 to take easy control.In another match, Rohini Limbu scored 16 points for Triton in their comfortable 40-22 victory over Xavier International. Triton lead in all four quarters 12-6, 12-6, 8-5, 8-5 to make it through to the last eight.
In boys´ category, Dharan, Xavier and National made it through to the pre-quarterfinal round.
Dharan defeated Kaski 66-44. Rai duo emerged heroes in Dharan´s win as Bhupal and Heman netted 19 points apiece. Dharan took control in the first three quarters and were behind by one point in the last with the score of 18-8, 13-7, 15-8, 20-21 respectively.
In another match, Xavier had a hard fought 46-44 win over VS Niketan. The 23-21 lead in the the last quarter shaped the victory for Xavier who had won led first quarter by a low margin of 6-3 and lost the other two sets 8-10 and 9-20. Raju Tamang and Arun Thapa netted 11 points each for the triumphant team.
Similarly, National thrashed Orient 32-13 riding on 10 points of Rupesh Sunuwar. National played a 2-2 draw in the second quarter and led the remaining quarters 14-4, 7-4, 9-3 respectively.
Rating chess from March 8
KATHMANDU, Feb 21: The Himalaya Chess Club is organizing the First Rambir Memorial Rating Chess Tournament from March 8 at Purnachandi, Lalitpur.
The total cash prize of the tournament to be held under 10 rounds in the Swish League Format is Rs 43,000. The top six players will bag Rs 10,000, Rs 7,000, Rs 5,000, Rs 4,000 Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively while the seventh and eighth will receive Rs 1,500 each. Similarly, ninth and tenth players will receive Rs 1,000 each.
The organizers have made lodging arrangements for players from outside the Kathmandu Valley.
