APF lifts national women’s volleyball title

KATHMANDU, March 30: The departmental team Armed Police Force (APF) Club lifted the sixth National Open Women’s Volleyball Tournament defeating New Diamond Academy 3-0 on Friday. In the final match played at the APF’s volleyball court in Halchowk, the departmental team trounced New Diamond on straight sets of 25-12, 25-11, 25-11.

KATHMANDU, March 30: The departmental team Armed Police Force (APF) Club lifted the sixth National Open Women’s Volleyball Tournament defeating New Diamond Academy 3-0 on Friday.

In the final match played at the APF’s volleyball court in Halchowk, the departmental team trounced New Diamond on straight sets of 25-12, 25-11, 25-11.


With this win, APF has now lifted its 10th title this season. 


APF, also the organizer of the event, has lifted five out of total six editions of the tournament. New Diamond that won the fourth edition is the only team other than the APF to win the tournament.

In this season alone, APF won the Speaker’s Women’s Open Volleyball Tournament twice, Sher Bahadur Khadka Memorial Women’s Tournament, a volleyball tournament in Teej in Pokhara, 22nd Women’s Open Volleyball Tournament, Dhorpatan Double League, New Diamond Cup, NVA League and Didi Bahini Women’s Volleyball Tournament. 


In the third-placed match earlier on the day, the other departmental team Nepal Police Club beat Tribhuvan Army Club 3-2. It won the first set 25-18, while lost the next two sets 17-25, 13-25. Police 

made a comeback to win the two last consecutive sets 25-23, 15-13. 


With the title win, APF was rewarded with a cash prize of Rs 250,000, while the runner-up New Diamond took home a prize of Rs 125,000. Earlier, the third-placed Police won Rs 50,000. 


APF’s Nebika Chaudhary, Manisha Tamang, Saraswati Chaudhary and captain Binita Budathoki were named the best spiker, the best defender, the best blocker and the best setter of the tournament respectively. And, New Diamond’s Pratibha Mali won the best server award. Likewise, APF’s Puja Chaudhary was adjudged the rising talent, while Gyanendra Bista of APF won the award for the best coach. 


All the individual winners were given Rs 5,000 each. 


APF’s Reshma Bhandari winning the title of the best player of the tournament got a scooter.
