Sports briefs: National Soft Tennis from today

KATHMANDU, July 10: Nepal Soft Tennis Association (NSTA) has announced the Seventh National Soft Tennis Championship will begin on Thursday in Kathmandu. According to NSTA President Binay Bikram Shah, the three-day tournament will feature 36 male and 16 female players from five development regions and departmental team Nepal Police. The players will compete for a total of six gold medals in men´s singles, men´s doubles, women´s singles, women´s doubles, mixed doubles and men´s team event. All the matches will be played at the court of Armed Police Force Headquarters in Halchowk. [break]



Sri Lanka volleyball team arrives

KATHMANDU: Sri Lanka´s national volleyball team arrived in Kathmandu on Wednesday to participate in the First South Asian Invitational Men´s Volleyball Championship. Nepal Volleyball Association (NVA) President Dan Bahadur Tamang, other volleyball officials and Nepali players welcomed the 15-member team, including 12 players, upon its arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport. The Maldives team arrived in Kathmandu on Monday while the Afghanistan team is scheduled to arrive in Kathmandu on Thursday. The championship, organized by NVA, will begin on Friday at the National Sports Council covered hall in Kathmandu. Nepal, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and the Maldives are competing in the first edition of the championship.
