Karki starts KTM - Dolakha ultra-run
KATHMANDU: Ultra runner Ram Sundar Karki started his Kathmandu - Dolakha ultra-run on Tuesday with a motive of raising awareness for sports development in the country. Karki, who started his ultra-running from the Dasharath Stadium on Tuesday morning, has a program to reach Dolakha Bhimsen Temple on Wednesday evening with a night stay at Khadichaur. His mentor Olympian Krishna Basnet will accompany Karki during the run. South Asian record holder marathoner Baikuntha Manandhar bade farewell to Karki at the Dasharath Stadium on Tuesday.
Maruhiti chess tourney begins
KATHMANDU: Maruhiti Open Chess Tournament began in the capital on Tuesday to mark the 43rd anniversary of the Maruhiti Club. Rajan Puri, Hera Kaji Maharjan, Janardan Shrestha, Sita Ram Agrawal, Lawa Kumar Shrestha, Himal Lama, Bibek Lama, Arvind Lal Joshi, Shyam Krishna Napit and Sudip Bajracharya won their respective matches on the first day and secured a point each. Winner of the tournament will get Rs 10,000 while the runner-up will bag Rs 7000. Nepal Chess Association President Rajesh Hari Joshi and veteran chess player Janardan Shrestha jointly inaugurated the tournament on Tuesday.
