Shrestha off to Malaysia
KATHMANDU, July 10: Taekwondo player Ranjan Shrestha and chief taekwondo coach Deepraj Gurung on Saturday left for Malaysia for a special training for the First Youth Olympic Games.
Nepal Olympic Committee President Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan bade farewell to Shrestha and Gurung. Shrestha is participating in the Youth Olympics through the universality taekwondo quota to Nepal.
The Youth Olympics is scheduled to be held in Singapore from August 12 to 26.
KC, Basi win race
KATHMANDU, July 10: Milan KC and Sarita Basi won the open category of men´s and women´s 5-km race, respectively, during the Third Robert Roch Road Race on Saturday. Santosh KC and Prakash Paneru finished second and third in the men´ category while Santoshi Shrestha secured the second spot in women´s category.
The top three winners bagged a purse of Rs 3,000, Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,000 respectively.
The joint organizers -- Nepal Tuberculosis Eradication Center, Lalitpur Athletics Club and Patan Jaycees -- also organized inter-school boys´ and girls´ 3-kilometer race on the occasion.
Deepak Chaudhary of Kathmandu English School, Buddha Kumar Ghising of Gyanodaya and Sitaram Chaudhary of Amar Jyoti claimed the top three spots in the boys´ race. In the girls´ race, Sharmila Chhetri of Gladstone, Anu Taleji of Babu Secondary School and Reena Kapali of Ashirwad School finished first, second and third respectively.
