Little Angels’ becomes team champion

KATHMANDU, August 30: Host Little Angels’ School became team champion in the tenth LA-JTI Inter School Junior Open Tennis Tournament that concluded on Tuesday. Little Angels’ accumulated a total of 84 points to become the champion for the eighth time.

KATHMANDU, August 30: Host Little Angels’ School became team champion in the tenth LA-JTI Inter School Junior Open Tennis Tournament that concluded on Tuesday. Little Angels’ accumulated a total of 84 points to become the champion for the eighth time.


Defending champion St. Xavier’s School wrapped up the tournament in second place with 36 points while Premier School secured third position with 24 points. 


 Prasansha Moktan’s two gold medals helped Premier in securing third place. In the last day of the tournament, Moktan became champion in the Under-9 (U-9) and U-10 girls’ singles events.

In other finals played on the same day at Little Angles’ tennis court, St. Xavier’s Adit Subedi, host team’s Saloni Tamang and Kaasthamandap Vidyalaya’s Pranav Manandhar emerged victorious. 


In the U-14 boys’ singles event, Adit defeated Shuvatara School’s Samyak Bhushan Bajracharya in the straight sets of 6-3, 6-0 while in the girls’ final of the same age category Saloni Tamang registered 7-6, 6-0 win over Rayana Shah of Ace School. 


Kaasthamandap’s Manandhar recorded 6-0, 6-2 win over Prasiddha Basnet of Nepal Police School in the U-10 boys’ singles final. 


Earlier, St. Xavier’s Nisadh Joshi and Saraswati Boarding School’s Supriya Tamang had won gold medals in the U-8 boys’ and girls’ sections respectively. Likewise, John Dewey School’s Ayushman Ghale became champion in the U-9 boys’ singles event while Aditya Subedi of Aksharaa School and Rayana Shah of Ace School had secured first positions in the U-12 boys’ and girls’ sections respectively.  


All Nepal Lawn Tennis Association’s President Jyoti Rana, Little Angels’ President PB Limbu among others distributed the prizes to the winning players and schools. A total of 144 players from 31 schools of Kathmandu Valley participated in the 11 different events in boys’ and girls’ sections of a weeklong tournament.
