Nepal champion Badrilal Nepali has equal three points as that of Lama but is in the second position because of players´ rating. Nepali defeated Man Kumar Gurung and Ratna Byanjankar in the second and third rounds, respectively.
Along with Lama and Nepali, Krishna Thapa, FIDE master Manish Hamal, Rajan Puri and Rabindra Shrestha have equal three points and occupy the third to sixth positions.
Likewise, Ganesh Man Duwal, Bikash Kuluju and Purna Raj Khadka are in the seventh, eighth and ninth positions respectively with 2.5 points each. Unrated player Surya Man Maharjan occupies the 10th spot with 2.5 points from three games.
National team beat Jhapa XI
KATHMANDU: National football team defeated Jhapa XI 3-1 in a friendly football on Monday in Kakarvitta, Jhapa, in a bid to help national team skipper Sagar Thapa win the Pulsar Popular Player of the Year award. In their third and last match during the National team´s tour on eastern region, National team came from a goal deficit to beat Jhapa. Ganesh Lawati netted twice and Nirajan Khadka added another. Lawati had netted in the 17th and 20th minute and Khadka in the 48th minute. Earlier, Yugal Kishor Rai had given second minute lead to Jhapa. The national team had defeated Sunsari 2-0 on Saturday, and played 1-1 draw against Morang on Sunday.
Navajeevan, Trinity win matches
KATHMANDU: Navajeevan and Trinity won their respective matches in the boys´ section of the Second Bagmati Inter College Basketball Tournament on Monday. Navajeevan pulled a hard fought victory of 37-35 against VS Niketan while Trinity humiliated Brihaspati 44-10. Likewise, NASA, Nobel Academy and Bernhardt also won their matches on Monday. NASA thrashed Sagarmatha 54-24, Nobel eased past BST 46-10 and Bernhardt defeated Galaxy 45-35. Meanwhile, Morgan, Nobel and host Bagmati won their respective matches in the girls´ section. Morgan humiliated Reliance 22-7 while Nobel thrashed Brihaspati 34-4. Likewise, Bagmati beat Bernhardt 18-15.
LRI Club sets up title clash against Loyalty
KATHMANDU: The host LRI Korfball Club has set up the title clash against Loyalty School on Monday in the First National Korfball Tournament being held at the LRI School premises Kalanki. The final will be held on Tuesday. In the semifinal matches played on Monday, LRI Club saw off LRI School 10-6 and in another semifinal, Loyalty Academy saw off Mount Glory 9-5. Earlier, in the league round matches, LRI Club eased past Lumbini College 12-2. In another competitive match, Mount Glory International had a hard fought 5-4 win over LRI School. Similarly, Loyalty thrashed Lumbini College 15-2. The top scorer of the tournament so far are Bhawana Lama of Loyalty Academy with 12 goals, Nikesh Rai and Rojit Basnet of LRI Club with 11 goals apiece and Sachin Limbu of Loyalty with 10 goals. The third place match to be held between Mount Glory and LRI School will also be held on Tuesday.
Saipal, Baylor, Vanasthali into QF
KATHMANDU: Saipal, Baylor and Siddhartha Vanasthali advanced into the quarterfinals of the ongoing Yuva Cup Basketball Tournament on Monday. Saipal defeated Baylor 34-26 with 11 points from Raj Kumar Acharya. Despite the loss, Baylor made it through to the last eight as the group runner-up. In another match, Siddhartha Vanasthali beat Swapna Vatika 37-26. Nirajan topscored with 14 points for the winning team. All the matches were played at the court of Gyan Niketan.
