Newar community celebrates Yomari Punhi and Jyapu Day (In Pictures)

The Newar community gathered at Basantapur, Kathmandu, on Sunday, to celebrate Yomari Punhi, a traditional festival marking the harvest season, alongside National Jyapu Day, honoring Newari cultural heritage.

KATHMANDU, Dec 15: The Newar community gathered at Basantapur, Kathmandu, on Sunday, to celebrate Yomari Punhi, a traditional festival marking the harvest season, alongside National Jyapu Day, honoring Newari cultural heritage.


Devotees prepared and offered Yomari, a sweet dumpling made of rice flour, sesame seeds, and molasses, as part of the celebrations.

Dressed in traditional attire, participants showcased Newar heritage through music, rituals, and vibrant festivities. The event featured traditional musical performances and cultural processions, with musicians playing the Dhime drums and other traditional instruments, creating an electrifying atmosphere.
