Understanding cultural significance of Yomari Punhi

Yomari Punhi is one of the important festivals of Newa community. In order to pass on the Yomari culture to the new generation, we have taught Miss Newa to make Yomari every year and the tradition continues this year as well.

The winners, runners-up, and former Miss Newas of Miss Newa and Miss Little Newa celebrated Yomari Punhi Day on Sunday.

The participants of the beauty pageant gathered at Nepalese Fashion Home and taught each other how to make Yomari and celebrated Yomari Punhi as per a press statement released by Nepalese Fashion Home.


The statement quoted Hema Manandhar, president of Nepalese Fashion Home, saying, “Yomari Punhi is one of the important festivals of Newa community. In order to pass on the Yomari culture to the new generation, we have taught Miss Newa to make Yomari every year and the tradition continues this year as well.”  


Hema Manandhar, President of Naples Fashion Home, Miss Newa and Miss Little Newa, Managing Director Ashok Kumar Shrestha, Miss Newa: Sunita Dangol, Neetu Dangol, Krisha Maharjan, Priya Tandukar, Miss Little Newa: Arya Shrestha, Rikrishna Dangol, Prakriti Maharjan, Nayana Shakya, Ivan Jolina Maharjan, Tissa Tandukar, Vitisha Kansakar,  among others were present at the event.


Meanwhile, preparations are underway for the 16th edition of Miss Newa competition, which is being organized with the objective of spreading awareness among the youth about the cultural significance, ethnic identity, values, ​​and language of the Newa community.
