SPORTS BRIEFS: Khumaltar into C division

KATHMANDU, March 30: Khumaltar Youth Club secured promotion in the Martyrs Memorial C Division on Wednesday as they thrashed New Era Sports Club 7-1 in the qualifier played at the ANFA Complex, Lalitpur.

Triton, PUSET in final


BIRATNAGAR: Triton College, Kathmandu and the hosts PUSET College, Biratnagar entered into the final of the Vice-chancellor Ring Cup Twenty20 cricket tournament here on Wednesday. Triton beat CCRC, Kathmandu by three wickets. Triton restricted CCRC to 119/6 and met the target in 18.5 overs losing seven wickets as Manjeet Shrestha scored 41 runs for the winning side. Likewise, the B team of the hosts pulled a six-wicket victory over Zenith College, Biratnagar. Zenith, batting first, were all out for 57 runs in 18.2 overs while the hosts successfully chased the total in 11.2 overs losing four wickets.


Nepal Telecom clinch gold


KATHMANDU: Nepal Telecom clinched gold in both men´s and women´s 5km race on Wednesday in the ongoing Public Enterprises Sports Tournament. Dal Bahadhur Damai won the race in men´s category while Fariya Chaudhary finished first in the women´s category. In the men´s singles table tennis, Navin Bahadhur Shakya of Nepal Airlines Corporation clinched gold. In the mixed doubles category, the pair of Bishnu Maskey and Mina Kaderiya of Nepal Electricity Authority finished first. Maskey also teamed up with Ramesh Tuladhar to lift the men´s doubles title.



In the veterans category (above 45 years), the pair of Pradeep Upadhyaya and Sanu Bhakta Shrestha of Nepal Telecom won gold. In the men´s volleyball, National Sports Council and Janak Sikshya Samagri Center fixed their semifinal spot from group A. Nepal Electricity Authority and Udayapur Cement also reached the semifinals from group B.


Judokas selected for South Asian C´ship


KATHMANDU: Nepal Judo Association has selected 12 players for the South Asian Judo Championship 2011 to be held in Islamabad, Pakistan from May 9-15. Among the 12 players selected Wednesday at the Dasharath Stadium, five are women. Nepal will be competing in 14 weight categories, including two open categories. Two players in the men´s and women´s open weight category will be selected later from among the 12 players selected for training camp.



The selected players in the men´s category are Saroj Majharjan (U-60 kg) of Central Dojo, Ramesh Magar (U-66 kg) of Central Dojo, Raj Bahadur Chand (U-73 kg) of Nepal Police Club (NPC), Deepak Krishna Shrestha (U-81 kg) of MMAC, Shiva Baram (U-90 kg) of Army Club, Allen Maharjan (U-100 kg) of Lalitpur and Rajan Joshi (above 100 kg) of Central Dojo. Majority of the players selected in the women´s category are from NPC. They are Radha Devi Rai (U-48 kg), Sushila Adhikari (U-52 kg), Pramila Khadka (U-57 kg) and Indira Rai (U-70 kg). Phupu Lhamu Khatri (U-63 kg) of MMAC is the only player selected from outside the NPC.
