Sports briefs: Judo players get support

KATHMANDU, May 18: Judo players living in six different children´s homes in the capital received judo-gis and mats on Saturday from foreign well-wishers. Finland´s ex-judo player Heikki Lathenkorva provided the judo-gis while Mattd Aquino from Australia, who competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, donated the mats to the children.



The duo had donated the sports kits to Mount Everest Judo Research Center, an umbrella organization of the six children´s homes. Nepal Judo Association President Deepak Harsha Bajracharya and Central Children´s Welfare Committee President Dilliram Regmi handed over the judo-gis and mats to the children´s homes. Altogether 190 children are being looked after by the six children´s homes.



Cricket team honored



Nepali national cricket team was honored by cricnp.com, a cricket website, in the capital on Saturday for winning the ICC World Cricket League Division 3. The team was given a check of Rs 150,000 by the website. The promoters of cricnp.com -- Gagan Karki, Umesh Shrestha and Ivash Basnet -- handed over the check to skipper Paras Khadka and manager Tarini Bikram Shah. Crinnp.com also became the first website to honor the cricket team. Meanwhile, the website also presented national team skipper Khadka and U-19 national cricket team captain Bhuwan Karki with a mobile set each.
