Valley Public in QF
Valley Public secured quarterfinal berth in the Pathshala Cup First National Mini Basketball Tournament on Tuesday. Valley Public defeated Rato Bangala 15-11 at the court of hosts Pathshala Nepal. Sabin Joshi and Sumit Rai contributed six points each for the winners. Rato Bangala also qualified for the quarterfinals as they finished second in group D of the tournament behind Valley Public. Likewise, Ullens, Brihaspati, Gyan Niketan, Mahendra Bhawan, The New Summit and Kasthamandap also joined the group of last eight. Quarterfinal matches will kick off on Wednesday.
Pandit to run 161 km
Ultra runner Sanjay Pandit is set for another long-distance run. Pandit, who has previously completed a long-distance run from Jiri to Kathmandu, is now all set for a 161-km run from Kathmandu to Gorkha. Pandit informed media on Tuesday during a press conference that he will start the Kathmandu-Gorkha marathon on Sunday and complete it on Monday. Home TV is supporting the marathon organized by Broader Green Society Nepal. As on the previous occasion, the motto of Pandit´s long-distance run this time is also ´Let´s save the Himalayan region´. Athletics coach Laxman Basnet will train and guide Pandit during the marathon.
Kyokushin championship on Friday
Nepal Kyokushin Charghare Karate-do, Kirtipur announced to host the All Nepal Full-contact Kyokushin Karate Championship on Friday and Saturday. The karate-do, organizing a press conference on Tuesday, informed that 150 male karatekas would compete in four categories of the championship. According to the hosts, medalists will receive cash and other prizes.
Buddha Air sports festival begins
Football matches were held on the first day of the sports festival being organized by Buddha Air to celebrate its 13th anniversary. Both the matches on Tuesday ended in draws. In the first match held at the No 11 Brigade of the Nepal Army, Head Office-Sales held Airport Marketing-Transport Department to a 1-1 draw. Likewise, another match between the Operation and Engineering departments ended in a 2-2 draw. According to AG Sherpa, head of the sports department of Buddha Air, the organizers are including women´s badminton, volleyball and athletics for the airlines staff.
Wado-ryu team leaving for Gujarat
Nine Wado-ryu karate players are set to compete in the South Asian Karate Championships to be held in Gujarat of India from September 24 to 26. The selected players in male category are Manoj Rajbanshi (45 kg), Saroj Khadka (50 kg), Bishal Khadgi (55 kg), Yuvaraj Dahal (60 kg), Sanu Kanchha Shrestha (65 kg) and Chitra Prasad Shrestha (75 kg). Likewise, the players selected in female category are Nisha Tamang (38 kg), Reshma Shrestha (45 kg) and Pushpa Rajbanshi (50 kg). The 13-member team will leave for India on Wednesday under the leadership of chief coach Hari Sharan KC. Other members of the team are coach Janak KC, referees Sher Bahadur Dhungel and Sahadev Rajbanshi.
