SPORTS BRIEFS: Host Guheshwari triumphs

KATHMANDU, June 4: Host Guheshwari Academy defeated Brihaspati Vidhya Sadan 3-0 on Monday in the Guheshwari Girls´ Football Cup 2012 being held at Goldhunga, Kathmandu. Amrita Rai scored twice for the host while Pramila Tamang netted another. The day´s kick off match between Modern Indian School and Gram Sewa Higher Second School ended in a goalless draw.



Similarly, the matches between Kathmandu University High School A and Mansing Dharma High School, and Kathmnadu University B and Amar English Boarding School also ended in a goalless draw.[break]



Maharjan wins night uphill challenge


KATHMANDU: Narayan Gopal Maharjan secured first position on Sunday in the Marmot Night Uphill Challenge, a nighttime mountain biking tournament, clocking 11 minutes 38 seconds. The tournament is a part of Himalayan Outdoor Festival held at Hattiban. Aayman Tamang and Raj Kumar Shrestha secured second and third positions in 2.5 km course.



Ajita Rana, Upasna Shrestha and Sriesty Limbu claimed top three positions in the Western Union five km trail run. Kalyan Baniya, Ranjan Khatri and Sameer Tamang finished top three in male´s Chama Devi 10 km challenge, a 10 km race. In female´s same event, Menila Rai, Nim Dama Sherpa and Kascy Koopmans took top three positions.



Narayan Gopal also claimed top position in Hattiban MTB Challenge, mountain biking in 2.5 km course. Aaman Tamang and Raj Kumar Shrestha finished second and third.
