SPORTS BRIEFS: Gram Nirman, Gothatar win

KATHMANDU, March 16: Gram Nirman Bandhu Mandal and Gothatar United Club won their respective matches on Wednesday in the Martyrs Memorial C Division League Football qualifiers.



Gram Nirman defeated Kapan Youth Club 2-0 at the ANFA Complex Ground, Lalitpur. [break]Sandesh Lama and Nikesh Raut scored a goal each for the winners. Meanwhile, Gothatar struggled past Panchdhara Mul Samrakshan Samiti 5-4 in tiebreaker. Sudeep Paudel gave a lead to Gothatar in the 40th minute but Suman Nagarkoti levelled the score in the 77th minute to take the match to tiebreaker in which Gothatar emerged victorious.



APF storm into final


SINDHUPALCHOWK: Armed Police Force (APF) stormed into the final of Fourth San Miguel Sindhu Bhotekoshi Football Tournament on Wednesday with a 3-0 win over Madhyapur Youth Association at Lamosanghu, Sindhupalchowk. Santosh Shrestha scored twice for the departmental team while Deepak Khadka added another. Shrestha scored in the 28th minute while Khadka doubled the tally in the 65th minute. Shrestha, who was declared man-of-the-match, added a second goal in the 75th minute. APF will take on the winner of the second semifinal match to be held on Thursday between New Road Team (NRT) and Kavre Football Association.



Tyamke into final


ITAHARI: Tyamke Club of Dharan advanced into the final of Dan Bahadur Fuyal Memorial Football Club on Wednesday at Itahari. Tyamke had a hard fought 1-0 win over Dhrubatara Sporting Club of Damak. Babulal Hasda scored the lone goal for the three-time champions Tyamke. Ripesh Agrawal of the winning side was adjudged man-of-the-match. The host team will take on Dhankuta in the second semifinal match on Thursday.



Nepal Medical College win


KATHMANDU: Nepal Medical College defeated IOM Maharajgunj by nine wickets in the First Nationwide Inter-medical T20 Cricket Tournament on Wednesday. IOM won the toss and scored 102 runs at the loss of eight wickets. Suryansh Pandey scored 29 runs while Niraj Bhattarai of IOM grabbed three wickets in four overs. Nepal Medical College reached the target in just 16 overs losing a wicket. Dhan Bahadur Karki was bowled out on 49 runs while Rajiv Sharma was not out at 28 runs. Karki was later adjudged man-of-the-match and the best batsman. Suman Adhikari and Santosh Timalsina of IOM received the player-of-the-tournament and the best bowler awards respectively. Former national captain Binod Kumar Das, who still plays for the national team, was felicitated during the closing ceremony.
