Sports briefs: Creative, Bal Gitanjali win

KATHMANDU, July 17: Creative Learners Academy and Bal Gitanjali emerged victorious on Wednesday in the Coca-Cola Cup Inter-school Football Tournament being held at Sano Gaucharan, Kathmandu. Creative Learners defeated Yashodhara Bauddha 4-0, while Bal Gitanjali edged past Adarsha Higher Secondary School 1-0 with a lone goal from Bijay Karki. Similarly, Chahari Shiksha Sadan defeated Pulse Academy 5-3 in tie-breaker following a 1-1 stalemate in the regulation time. In other matches of the day, Daffodil School thumped Kavya School 6-0 with a hat-trick from Amit Raj Tamang, while Adarsha Higher Secondary School beat Mandala School 2-1. [break]



Army shooters win two golds


KATHMANDU, July 17: Nepal Army shooters on Wednesday claimed two gold medals on Wednesday, the second day of the Nationwide Open Shooting Championship being held at the Satdobato Shooting Range, Satdobato.



After the completion of three events, Nepal Army is on top of the medals table with two golds, one silver and one bronze followed by Nepal Police with one gold. Banke is in the third position with two silvers, while Saptari has earned one bronze.



Seema Tuladhar of Nepal Police clinched gold in the women´s 10m air pistol earning a total of 176 points. Krishna Thapa of Banke took the second position finishing two points behind Tuladhar. Army´s Sunita Maharjan came third with 153 points.



Army´s Kunwar KC won gold in the men´s 10m air pistol. He collected 171 points to finish ahead of Abdul Wahid Ansari of Banke who scored 166 points. Sudhan Khadka of Army finished third with 150 points.



Deepak Thapa of Army won the men´s 10m air rifle earning 183 points. Krishna Ghorasaini finished one point behind Thapa to secure the second position, while Asim Yadav of Saptari secured bronze collecting 163 points.



All three finals carried a total of 200 points. The championship organized by Nepal Shooting Association will conclude with the final of women´s 10m air rifle on Thursday.
