Daffodil, Pushpanjali triumph
Daffodil and Pushpanjali won their respective matches on Monday in the 15th Father Moran Memorial Primary-level Invitational Football Tournament organized by St Xavier´s School, Godawari. Daffodil struggled past Dolphin 2-1. Janis Syangden and Urgen Lama scored for the winners while Dipesh Silwal scored for Dolphin. On the other hand, Pushpanjali thrashed Eden Garden 6-0 at the hosts´ ground in Godawari. Amik Sunar completed his hat-trick while Anjan KC, Krishna Acharya and Ashim scored a goal apiece.
SEBS on winning streak
Samakhushi English Boarding School (SEBS) continued their winning streak on Monday in the volleyball competition of the 17th Eicher Gyan Carnival. SEBS eased past Bright Future 25-20, 25-18, and received a walkover from LRI in the next match. The hosts Gyanodaya defeated Ambrosia Ideal 25-23, 25-13 at their home court in Sanepa. Likewise, Bright Future defeated Gyankunj 25-23, 25-20. In the boys´ basketball tournament, Daffodil, Wilson and Prithvi won their respective matches on Monday.
Dhorpatan volleyball from Jan 1
Dhorpatan Sports Training Club will host the Sixth Dhorpatan Blue Sky Cup Women´s Double League Volleyball Tournament from January 1-13, 2011. According to the club, four-time champions Gyanubaba Higher Secondary School, Pokhara will be defending their title this time too. The winners of the tournament will get Rs 230,000 and the runners-up will bag Rs 102,000. The most valuable player of the tournament will get a scooter. The tournament is the women´s volleyball tournament with the highest cash prize in the country.
Prime thrash Golden Gate
Prime College thrashed Golden Gate ´A´ on the latter´s court during the Madan Bhandari Memorial Puls Two Basketball Tournament Monday. Manish Rajopadhya scored 20 points for Prime as they defeated Golden Gate 67-36. Likewise, Pentagon, Trinity and National Campus also registered victories in their respective matches. Pentagon struggled past Golden Gate to register a 48-47 win. Bishal Tamang contributed 18 points for Trinity as they ousted Rato Bangala 58-40. In another match, National Campus defeated VS Niketan 48-44.
Prime, Whitehouse in semis
Whitehouse College and Prime Sports Club reached the semifinals of the First Motidevi Cup Women´s Open National Basketball Tournament on Monday. Whitehouse defeated NASA 27-23 in a group ´B´ match at the National Sports Council Covered Hall to reach the last four. Mrinalini Shrestha scored 12 points for Whitehouse.
Nakhipot Youth Club has already booked the semifinal berth as group ´B´ leaders. Prime thrashed Morgan College 65-37 in a group ´A´ match to become the group leaders. Nayana Shakya, also a national swimmer, topscored for the winners with 19 points. Despite the loss, Morgan qualified for the semifinals as the runners-up in group ´B´. In a meaningless match, NIMS beat Xavier International 53-38. Prime will take on Whitehouse while Nakhipot will lock their horns with Morgan in the semifinals on Tuesday.
