SPORTS BRIEFS: BK wins 5,000m race

KATHMANDU, June 10: Minrashi BK won the boys´ 5,000m race during the first day of the School Level Inter-regional Nationwide Volleyball and Athletics Tournament on Thursday.



Tiku Chaudhary secured the first position in the boys´ high jump. In the girls´ 400m race, Dikmaya Karki won gold while Western Region won the girls´ 400m relay held at the Dasharath Stadium. [break]



In the boys´ volleyball, Mid-Western Region defeated Far Western Region 25-19, 25-19, 25-19 to set up a final clash with Western Region who ousted Eastern Region 25-20, 25-19.



Likewise, Western Region and Mid Western Region advanced into the final of girls´ volleyball. Western Region thrashed Eastern Region 25-5, 25-7 while Mid Western Region edged out Far Western Region 25-9, 25-16.





Nepali Women selected for World Boxing



KATHMANDU, June 10: Two Nepali women boxers from the departmental teams were selected by Nepal Boxing Association to participate in the IBA Barbados World Women´s Boxing Championships.



The selected boxers are Sanju Lama (51 kg) of Armed Police Force and Anuradha Lama (60 kg) of Nepal Police.



The championships will be held in West Indies, Barbados from September 6 - 19.
