SPORTS BRIEFS: Bad weather halts sky marathoners

DOLAKHA, Nov 5: Bad weather in the mountains of Dolakha and Solukhumbu forced the participants of the Everest Sky Marathon to halt at Na Gaun of Gaurishankar VDC of Dolakha from Friday.



The ultra race started on Tuesday from Dolakha but the snow fall on the mountains halted participants.[break]



The severing cold has troubled some participants. All 30 participants of the race are camping at Na Gaun at 4000 meters for last two days. There are four Nepalis and 26 foreigners participating in the race.



According to Chandra Bahadur Gurung of Great Mountain Holidays Nepal, the participants will move ahead to Cho Rolpa Lake as they get favorable whether condition and proceed toward Aamadablam Base Camp through Tasilapcha Base camp.



Sauvagya defeats DMC


BUTWAL: Sauvagya Youth Club, the district league champion of Rupandehi, defeated DMC, Tulsipur 1-0 on Saturday in the Madan Bhandari Memorial Golf Cup Knockout Football Tournament in Butwal. Kiran Limbu scored the lone goal of the match for Sauvagya sixth minute into the second half. Simrik Club and Christian Youth Club will lock horns on Sunday in the tournament organized by Madan Bhandari Sports Academy.



Nepalgunj also to host Nat´l Games


NEPALGUNJ: National Sports Council (NSC) on Saturday decided to conduct some games of the Sixth National Games in Nepalgunj instead of Dhangadhi and Mahendranagar. According to NSC, full-contact karate and ITF taekwondo will be held in Nepalgunj during the games scheduled to be held from February 26 to March 4. A study conducted by NSC has shown that shooting may as well be held in Nepalgunj.



Altogether 32 games are included in the sixth edition of the games where 4,000 players, coaches and managers will be participating. NSC has allocated Rs 30 million for the infrastructure development and Rs 100 million for conducting the games.



India beats Nepal in Kabaddi


KATHMANDU: Nepal lost to India 67-21 in the ongoing World Cup Circle Kabaddi Tournament on Saturday in Punjab. This is the second defeat of Nepal in the tournament. Earlier, Australia had thrashed Nepal 68-38.



Nepal will meet Germany in another group stage match on Sunday. Nepal is placed in group A along with Australia, Canada, England, Afghanisthan and India.



Social Public wins Seven-A-Side title in Goa


POKHARA: Social Public School of Pokhara won the title of U-19 Boys Seven-A-Side Football Tournament organized by Asian Seven-A-Side Football Federation in Goa, India. Social Public, the team representing Nepal in the tournament, defeated a team from Manipur, India 1-0 in the final match played on Friday.



Man Bahadur Tamang scored the lone goal of the match. Altogether 24 teams, including 23 from India and a team from Nepal, took part in the tournament.
