SPORTS BRIEFS: ANFA to support ailing Bista

KATHMANDU, April 6: All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) has decided to provide financial support to former national footballer Ranjan Bista who is suffering from cancer.



ANFA informed on Tuesday that it would immediately provide Rs 250,000 which includes Rs 100,000 from the association´s welfare fund and Rs 150,000 in advance from the sale of tickets of the second leg of the Martyrs Memorial San Miguel A Division League. [break]



ANFA has announced that it would provide Bista with 10 percent of the cash collected from tickets sales of the domestic league each day. Each of the four clubs playing the league will contribute 2 percent every day and ANFA will also contribute 2 percent to make the total amount 10 percent in the second leg.





Judokas selected



KATHMANDU, April 6: Four judokas were selected on Tuesday for the Asian Youth and Junior Judo Championships to be held from April 30 to May 2 in Bangkok, Thailand.



The players selected for the youth category are Pawan Kumar Raut in boys´ 50 kg and Phupu Lhamu Chhetri Khatri in girls´ 63 kg. Likewise, Diwakar Basnet and Sushmita Lawat were selected in boys´ 55 kg and girls´ 45 kg respectively in the junior section.



Nepal Judo Association´s President Deepak Harsha Bajracharya said the selected players will be kept in closed camp from Wednesday.



Altogether 27 players had participated in the selection round held at the Multipurpose Martial Arts Center, Nayabazar.





Women´s double league volleyball in May



KATHMANDU, April 6: The fifth edition of the Dhorpatan Blue Sky Cup Sunny Housing Women´s Double League Volleyball Tournament is set to begin in late May.



The tournament will be held from May 27 to June 5. There will be eight teams in the tournament, according to the organizer Dhorpatan Sports Training Club.



The participating teams are defending champions Gyanu Baba, Fishtail Academy, Tops School, Nepal Police, PLA, New Diamond, Angel Heart and Worker Martyrs Sports Club.



The top three teams will bag a purse of Rs 202,000, Rs 100,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively. The total cost of the tournament being organized by Sunny Housing is estimated to be Rs 2.1 million.
