All educational institutions, industries and markets remained closed across the country and vehicular movement was more or less paralyzed.
Though the agitating parties had claimed to organize a peaceful protest, many vehicles were vandalized and some even torched by the carders of the agitating parties in several parts of the country. [break]
Likewise, bomb hoaxes were also reported in different parts of the country, including the Kathmandu valley.
The police have detained around 90 people involved in the incidents of vandalism and arson attacks from different places of the country, half of them from the capital.
According to spokesperson of the Nepal Police, Senior Superintendent of Police Ganesh KC, the other strike enforcers were arrested from Dhankuta, Sunsari, Siraha, Chitwan, Nuwakot, Kalikot, Dang, Parsa and few other districts.
Carders of the CPN-Maoist torched two public buses in Bhimeswor municipality of Dolakha district at around midnight.
Likewise, a public bus was torched at Thimi municipality of Bhaktapur at 3.30 am.
And a vehicle belonging to the Ministry of Peace was also set alight while it was parked at Kharipati in Bhaktapur.
Similarly, a pickup jeep that was ferrying chickens was set on fire in Morang district.
Likewise, around 11 vehicles were vandalized in different parts of the country. Four vehicles were damaged in Kathmandu. A vehicle each was vandalized in Morang, Myagdi and Sunsari districts, according to the police.
“Most of the incidents of vandalism occurred during the wee hours, the police said, asserting that the security situation is not as bad as during the previous strikes.
A vehicle of Nepal Republic Meida which was ferrying Nagarik Dainik and Republica from Imadol in Lalitpur to Banepa of Kavre was also vandalized near Gwarko in Lalitpur on Monday morning.
Likewise, four hoax bombs were discovered in Kathmandu and six more were recovered from districts such as Siraha, Chitwan, Ilam and Dhankuta.
Public transportation largely remained off the road through out the day across the country though the government had pledged hefty compensation to the public transportation in case of vandalism.
KC further informed that around 500 long-route public vehicles were escorted from different places of the country to Kathmandu.
