A joint bench of judges Mohan Raman Bhattrai, Bhupendra Prasad Rai and Narendra Kumar Shiwakoti of the Special Court acquitted them.Altogether 18 persons including President Angbuhang and nine other office bearers of CAN were charged by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) in connection to irregularities during construction of cricket stadium and other infrastructure at Mulpani, Kathmandu, in June last year.
The anti-graft body had charged CAN President Angbuhang, vice-presidents Chatur Bahadur Chand, Sunil Man Amatya and Binod Kumar Mainali, General Secretary Askonath Pyakurel, Treasurer Raj Babu Shrestha and members Kiran Shumsher Rana, Thakur Pratap Thapa, Thakur Prasad Pahadi and Purna Bahadur Lama and National Sports Council's engineer Arun Upadhaya.
According to the CIAA statement, beside aforementioned officials and CAN office-bearers, operator of Gaura Construction Surya Adhikari, Ram Sharan Deuja of R Komal Construction, Krishna Prasad Pandey of Nawa Nirman Company, Pawan Pathak of Crown Nepal Construction and Development, Raj Kumar Khadka of Khadka Construction and Umesh Man Shrestha of Design Shell Architect and engineer Chhabi Lal Adhikari of Sifon Engineering Consultancy had been charged in the case.
The CIAA had said that the investigations had revealed that they embezzled Rs 14.31 million by misusing funds provided by the government and foreign organizations for construction of the stadium and building by sending irrelevant people for foreign trip on CAN's expenditure among others.
CIAA, in the charge sheet had demanded that the culprits recoup the amount to the cricket governing body.
