Special Court acquits corruption-accused

KATHMANDU, Jan 23: The Special Court on Monday acquitted 14 persons accused of corruption, including the managing director of National Residence Company, Krishna Dev Chaudhari who had been accused of registering public land in the names of various individuals.

KATHMANDU, Jan 23: The Special Court on Monday acquitted 14 persons accused of corruption, including the managing director of National Residence Company, Krishna Dev Chaudhari who had been accused of registering public land in the names of various individuals.


Special Court judges Baburam Regmi, Ratna Bahadur Bagchand and Narayan Pokhrel acquitted Chaudhari and other accused of corruption. According to Nagendra Keshari Pokhrel, spokesperson for the court, they were acquitted because there was no evidence to support the allegations leveled against them. 

 

Managing Director Chaudhari of the company, former director general Naresh Chaudari and planning chief Narayan Prasad Ghimire, engineer Umesh Prasad Shah and VDC Secretary Keshav Tiwari are among those who were acquitted on Monday from the charge of corruption.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had charged them with corruption accusing that they had registered public land in the names of individuals illegally. The anti-graft body had also accused them of misappropriating Rs 10.36 million by registering the public land situated at Daunne of Nawalparasi in the name of individuals.

Another bench of judges comprising Dwarika Man Joshi, Chandi Raj Dhakal and Pramod Kumar Shrestha Vaidya also acquitted Ramji Prasad Baral (undersecretary) of the Department and Foreign Employment and 33 others co-accused of corruption who had been accused of issuing work permits by taking huge bribes. The anti-graft body had filed the corruption case against them.
