KATHMANDU, May 18: Speaker Subas Nembang has strictly directed lawmakers visiting the 14 districts worst hit by earthquake to be economical and not to use helicopters during their stay in the disaster ravaged areas.

Nembagn directed the lawmakers after some of them including former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal, Chandramohan Yadav and Shri Prasad Jabegu used a helicopter to visit the quake-hit villages in Dolakha district on Saturday.

The parliament's National Disaster Management, Monitoring and Direction Special Committee has sent 14 different groups of lawmakers to the quake devastated districts for monitoring the situation here."The lawmakers who are on the field visits have been strictly directed not to use helicopters and to be as economical as possible," Nembang, who also heads the 73-member special committee, told reporters at his chamber on Sunday. "I have also clearly told the lawmakers not to cause any additional burden to local official, who should focus their efforts in providing relief and rehabilitate the victims due to hteir visits."

The all-party committee, which was formed earlier this month by the parliament's full House has also directed the government to make an arrangement of temporary houses within a month to those whose houses were destroyed by the earthquakes.

It has also urged the government to mobilize doctors and other health workers along with sufficient medicines to such districts to prevent possible health epidemic in the days to come.

"Arrange foodstuffs immediately for at least three months for the quake hit districts," the committee told government. "And establish transitional rehabilitation center for displaced people, children and elderly people in need to support."

Meanwhile, the committee that sought public feedback in a toll free number received some complaints. Most of the people registering their grievances have complained that they are in dire need of tents and tarpaulins, relief goods but haven't received even as they have staying under open sky for weeks.

Some of them have demanded that authorities demolish some buildings in their neighborhoods that have put their life at risk and created terror in the area.
