KATHMANDU, April 11: Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar on Monday refuted a media report that she is unhappy over the recommendation of Supreme Court Justice Sushila Karki for the post of Chief Justice.

A meeting of Constitutional Council on Sunday had recommended Karki as the new CJ. Before that, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had met Speaker Gharti at Sumeru Hospital, where she is undergoing treatment, and had taken her consent for the recommendation.

A vernacular daily on Monday had reported that Speaker Gharti is against the decision.  A statement issued by her Personal Secretariat, however, states that there is no reality in the report.

Gharti’s Personal Secretary, Nishan Magar, said in the statement that she is sad for failing to attend the historic meeting that picked first woman CJ in the country.

“The Speaker fully supports the decision in the capacity of a council member,” reads the statement, adding that the she has appealed all not to create disputes over the recommendation.
