KATHMANDU, Dec 13: In a city of art, you also feel loved. Around the alleys of Bhaktapur in Surjamadi, one can see an old couple selling bara, chips and other fast food. Purna Laxmi and Tritha Raj Prajapati got married when they were 16. Today, both of them are 63. It was an arranged marriage. They have 3 sons and 3 daughters.
Tirtha Raj was into pottery right from his childhood. A couple of years later he left pottery and started farming. He used to work together with his wife on the farm. Together, they sold the farm-grown vegetables in the city. Few years down the line, the couple started a small hotel in their old home in Surjamadi. It has been ten years since they have been working in their hotel (khaja pasal).

Tritha Raj does not add imported spices in his foods. That is what makes it so special. Every morning Tirtha wakes up and goes to work. After 6 AM Purna Laxmi joins him.
Since their children are married except for the youngest one, they live together. It has been 47 years since they have been sharing their sorrows and happiness. They spent half of their life in Bhaktapur. “The Hanumanghat river was clean. We used to drink water from the river.
Now it is sewage. Ponds are polluted and a majority of the cultivable lands are plotted,” said Tirtha. Rapid urbanization has changed Bhaktapur, which in turn, has changed the lives of people as well.
