OKHALDHUNGA, Jan 18: Local people of Solu Dudhkunda municipality-11, Tingla here in the district have staged a protest demanding electricity for their village. 

Inhabitants of Tingla village who are affected by Solu Corridor staged a demonstration demanding electricity. As a part of their protest, they torched a dozen motorcycles at Tingla Lammane on Saturday afternoon. 

The enraged villagers complained that a transmission line was installed in Pattale, ward 8 of the municipality but their locality has not been electrified yet. 

Inauguration of transmission line in Pattale was scheduled for Saturday, however, got disrupted due to the protest by Tingla locals. According to Subash Darnal from Solukhumbu, the agitating villagers torched 11 bikes and a Bolero jeep.

“Although our village lies in the hydro project-affected zone, electricity was made available in Pattale first. It is really disappointing. We have no other option but to launch protest,” the villagers argued. 

Member of House of the Representatives from the district Hem Kumar arrived in the district to inaugurate electricity line in Pattale, however, was forced to return following the protest by Tingla locals. 

They have also blocked the road by felling trees in various sections of Kathmandu-Okhaldhunga-Solukhumbu road obstructing vehicular movement and leaving hundreds of passengers stranded along the roadway. 

District Police Office, Solukhumbu informed that it has tightened security following the aforementioned development.
