Dozens of people, who are bitten by snakes, visit health institutions daily. The District Public Health Office, Myagdi, says the number of snake-bitten people is on the rise.
The last week alone 53 people, who were bitten by snakes, visited Taulihawa Hospital for treatment.
Similarly, sources at Shivaraj Hospital, Bahadurgunj, and primary health centers say the health institutions have been receiving huge flow of snake-bitten patients.
On Monday, 5-year-old Kushuwa and 25-year-old Kamrun Nisha were injured after snakes bite them at Somhid VDC-8. The duo, said to be in critical condition, were undergoing treatment at Taulihawa and India.
The increasing cases of snake bites have alarmed doctors. At the same time we are also worried due to the shortage of vaccine against snake bite, said Dr. Ananta Sharma.
It is said that snakes’ movement increases during monsoon as they compete with people for dry land.
Meanwhile, a youth died being bitten by a poisonous snake in Bayarban of Morang on Sunday.
Kamal Magar, 23, a local, died on the way to Damak after a poisonous snake bit him while working in own farm, according to family source.
