Sixth economic summit kicks off in Colombo

KATHMANDU: The 6th South Asia Economic Summit began in Colombo, Sri Lanka on Monday.  The three-day summit has brought together eminent personalities from academia, government, civil society, private sector and media from the SAARC member countries.



Institute of Policy Studies, an apex think tank of Sri Lanka, is hosting the summit with the theme “Towards a stronger, dynamic and inclusive South Asia.”

Dr Sarath Amunugama, deputy minister of finance and planning of Sri Lanka inaugurated the Summit. [break]



Speaking on the occasion, Ahmed Saleem, SAARC Secretary-General, said the summit had become an important platform for the South Asian researchers, academicians, businesspersons, government representatives, among others, to exchange views on issues having a direct bearing on economic integration of the region.



“I am happy to mention that the previous five summits have been instrumental in generating views and ideas for consideration of the policy makers in our region,” said Saleem.
