KATHMANDU, Feb 27: The Cho Oyu winter summit expedition team led by Gelje Sherpa has decided to leave for a summit push tonight. The team is currently at Camp 2 and will head for the summit to attempt a winter summit before the end of February.
The team had last attempted to make a summit on February 21 but was forced to turn back because of unfavorable weather conditions.
No summit for Mingma's and Gelje's teams at Cho Oyu
“At the moment, we are here in Camp 2 for a summit push for tonight. As the weather looks bad because of strong wind and snow outside, we are inside our tents at camp 2. All our team are safe and good and tonight we will try for another summit push. As we all know, this will be hard but we don’t want to miss out on an opportunity to make a winter ascent of Mt Cho Oyu,” Gelje Sherpa shared on his Facebook today.
The expedition team had left for the Everest region from Kathmandu on January 26 with a goal to introduce a commercial route from the Nepali side. Similarly, a second expedition team launched by Pioneer Adventures is also looking to reach the summit of Mt Cho Oyu from another route.
